In 1974, Sterling Sill stated this about reaching our full potential:
"Often we fly just high enough to miss the treetops, whereas just a little more effort, a little more determination would put us in the big leagues of success in our lives."
"The Duke of Wellington once said to some French soldiers that British soldiers were not braver than French soldiers; they were only brave for five minutes longer. And Jim Corbett, the former heavyweight champion prize fighter of the world, said that the secret of success in the prize ring was the ability to stay one more round."
"The difference is just a little change in attitude and a little more effort in the right direction. The results [can be] tremendous, though the difference may be as fine as a razor's edge."
Regarding leadership, Sterling Sill stated:
"Leadership is a science and it is also an art. It is certainly the most important enterprise ever undertaken. It is also the one supremely difficult thing to develop. Goods can be manufactured on a formula; guided missiles can reach their own targets. .. But it takes a human being to be a leader, and great leadership requires a human being at his best."
Sterling Sill was also responsible for building the Sill Center , a building that was used by the Family and Consumer Studies department to promote home management skills and family economic studies from the mid 1950's to the mid 1980's.
